Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Synopsis from Goodreads: On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial--this can't happen here. Not in America. Not to her. This is just the beginning. Soon women can no longer hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words a day, but now women only have one hundred to make themselves heard. But this is not the end. For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.

My Review: This political dystopian story was horrifyingly realistic. As the main character thinks that it can’t possibly happen to them I found myself thinking about our own political atmosphere and it made the book all the more scary. One of the scariest things for me was the way the author portrayed the children. The little girl not allowed the even cry out for mom, the mom unable to comfort her daughter with any words. This book was one I couldn’t stop reading and yet didn’t want to continue. If you enjoyed the Handmaids Tale, like dystopian books, or fear where the future may take us then you should read this book!

*I received this book from Berkley Pub and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
