About the Author
Lynn H. Blackburn is the author of Hidden Legacy (Love Inspired, June 2017) and Covert Justice, winner of the 2016 Selah Award for Mystery and Suspense and the 2016 Carol Award for Short Novel. Blackburn believes in the power of stories, especially those that remind us that true love exists, a gift from the Truest Love. She’s passionate about CrossFit, coffee, and chocolate (don’t make her choose) and experimenting with recipes that feed both body and soul. She lives in Simpsonville, South Carolina, with her true love, Brian, and their three children.
Review and a Recipe inspired by the book
I really enjoyed this book. It was suspenseful and full of mystery and tension. The book grabbed my attention and sucked me into the story. One of my favorite aspects of books is when one of the main characters bakes or cooks and the author describes the food. In Beneath the Surface the main character, Leigh, loves to bake cookies and share them with her friends. This inspired me to dust of one of my oldest recipes and bake some cookies. In one scene from the book Leigh is making cookies and that act brings back memories of her mother. Much like that, baking often brings back memories of my Grandmother and I cherish that I have that way to remember her.
Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cup unsifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 bag chocolate chip cookies (I prefer Ghirardellis)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375
Stir flour with baking soda and salt, set aside.
In large mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Gradually blend dry mixture into creamed mixture.
Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.
Drop tablespoon of dough per cookie onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375° for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.
