My Review: This book focuses on the integration of schools in Mongomery, Alabama in 1968. The story follows an 11 year-old student and her African American teacher, Miss Annie Loomis. Both face bullying and adversary and must find a way to deal with the struggles they face.

I was initially really interested in this book and delving into the racial issues of the time but the book focuses so much on the 11 year-old white girl that the chapters about the teachers are lacking. The other problem I had with this book was the writing style. Instead of feeling like a book for a young adult audience most of the time it felt like a middle grade read. Overall the book had an interesting premise but it was lacking in several key areas.

*I received this book from Booksparks in exchange for an honest review*
